The Silver Cross is awarded for acts of bravery in the face of danger where life has been at considerable risk. This Certificate and Medal were awarded to Troop Leader James Ashton of the Bispham Parish Church Scout Group in recognition of his gallantry in rescuing a boy from drowning in the sea, at Bispham, on 17th March 1929. The Certificate is handwritten, and signed, by Robert Baden-Powell, Chief Scout on 15th May 1929.
